In the beginning, was God - one God,Who revealed Himself to humanity as Yahweh (Jehovah). It is interesting to note that these are two very different pronunciations of the same Hebrew word. This name for God was considered so sacred that is was never to be spoken aloud, so it took some time to come up with a correct transliteration so that we pronounce it as it would sound if spoken. God also called Himself “I AM” or The Self-existent One. When Moses asked God what to tell the Israelites enslaved in Egypt, “God replied, “I AM THE ONE WHO ALWAYS IS. Just tell them, ‘I AM has sent me to you.’” (Exodus 3:14 NLT) In addition, the One True and Living God has always functioned as, revealed Himself and interacted with humanity as Father, Son and Spirit. Who is:
Through the written Word of God (also known as the Bible or scripture) and God’s interaction with humanity, the One True and Living God has revealed His basic nature and character. His character is revealed to us through His names. His basic nature is expressed in scripture by words like “God is...” or “I am...” God’s nature is the very core of Who God is. The Word tells us that:
All of Who God is has these characteristics at His very core. God the Father is Eternal, Good, Light, Life, Love, Truth and Holy. God the Son is Eternal, Good, Light, Life, Love, Truth and Holy. God the Spirit is Eternal, Good, Light, Life, Love, Truth and Holy. In the beginning ALL of Who God is participated in the creation of the world.
